The logic is quite simple.

No matter how powerful any tiger can naturally be, his strength is still minuscule in comparison to an elephant.

If strength isn't much of a factor, then a lighter body will allow the tiger even more speed and maneuvering capabilities and more stamina.

Add that to the fact that a smaller frame means the tiger is a lesser of a target for the elephant's trunk and tusks and legs.


This theory can be supported by the famous Kaziranga tigress attack on a man on top of an elephant.

The what appears to be a 450lb tigress got herself 2 feet above the elephant in such small amount of time that she didn't even bother avoiding the trunk or the tusk of the elephant.


Now, about the authors opinion on how such event is 'rare', that tigers attacking or killing elephants is 'not known', and how the elephant was 'ailing and weak', this mere opinion by the ignorant author who obviously is nothing more than a reporter, and should discarded.
