Clayton wrote: In Africa one hyena will frequently track a leopard and after the leopard has killed something it will fight the leopard off the carcass and steal its food. This way it does not need to expend energy hunting and possibly failing. The smallest injury to a leopard could result in it not being able to hunt and dying and the leopard knows this and will not risk injury. With the hyena back at the clan kills by the group have already been made and it just needs to fight its way in for a share of meat. A slight injury to a hyena is not as life-threatening as it is for a leopard but in some rare cases some of the most aggressive leopards don't tolerate any intruder to steal his meal.
A male lion would have his hands full and get turned into scarface in a fight with a mature male leopard. Leopards are the most underrated animal in the world, period. Just ask this male lion that caught an injured Male Leopard out in the open and was torn up by the leopard. ScottWolverine could fill you in on the rest of the account. There have been cases I swear to you of Leopards taking small lionesses and eating them. Honestly I swear to you, a 175 to 225 lb Male Leopard I'd take over a lioness 1 on 1 in a fight. Have everytime, but since the lions always going to be with it's pride 10 + deep, you rarely get the chance to see that, though male leopards take wondering juveniles that wonder away fromt the pride.

Strongest , pound for pound is the Jaguar followed by tiger, cougar , leopards & then the lions. Believe me no cat on earth would want to mess with a jaguar at same size, they are extremely powerful.

Perrualt Male Leopards kill hyenas. When a Large male wants to kill a hyena it will period. We're not talking about a 90 female leopard. We are talking about a 200 or so Large Male Leopard. 2 and a 3 year old lions have been taken, and eaten by male leopards. In captivity Leoaprs exceed 300 lbs. I've seen in captivity, Leopards larger than male lions. Though that's captivity, different story. In captivity cougars have beaten lions. I've provided an account in which a Male lion caught a male leopard that had been injured out in the open. The lion basically ambushed the leopard you can ask Scottwolverine, and the lion and leopard fought until both were exhausted and both amazingly started resting amazingly feet apart from each other. Large Male Leopards down adult wildebeest and adult zebras no problem. Infact I'll say the Large Male Leopards are probably the best hunters in Africa. Not female leopards because they can't bring down half of what the large males can. So to your question. Yes Indeed a large Male Leopard 175 to 235 lb range can beat a female lion 1 on 1. An Large Male Leopards have taken juvenile lions. 1 on 1 is a different story, leopards will majority of the time flee instinctually, just like lions from masai warriors. But not always, Like eye of the leopard, some Large Male Leopards are a differen't story. Large Male Leopards lb for lb amaze me.
